It's no secret that I am all about saving money when I can. I don't buy name-brand unless I have to, and I don't splurge unless I've made room for it in our budget.
That last part is important because as a mom of two kids in a world that seems to get more expensive by the day, splurging seems like it would be a distant dream. Doctor's visits, hospital bills, daycare, groceries - they are all budget-hoggers and leave little to no room for non-essential purchases.
But I am happy to report that I have found ways to make room in our budget for fun, spontaneous purchases without getting our electricity cut off or having an insane credit card bill at the end of the month.
One of those ways has already been discussed here on my blog in my post about the 8 apps I use that offer cash back for every day purchases, but I've got another little secret to share with you guys; it's an app/website called Wish and you need to know about it!
what is 'wish'?
In short, it's an app/website that offers TONS of super-discounted deals on items ranging from jewelry to clothing to phone accessories to pretty much anything else you can think of. Most items come from Asia, so while they are typically not name-brand, they do mimic the styles and serve the same purpose as many name-brand products.
I love perusing this app, whether it's for a specific item I am looking for or just to browse and see what kinds of deals they currently have. So naturally, I have specific reasons why I continue to use it. Here's why I love this app:
No app/website is perfect. There are a few pitfalls with purchasing things through Wish, and I want to be as transparent as possible. No sugar-coating here!
my 'wish' purchases
Just to show you the array of things you can get on Wish, here's a list of what I have personally ordered, what I paid with shipping included, and what I thought the overall quality of the item was. (Sorry I don't have pictures of all of them!)
First, let me just say that this backpack is darn near perfect. It looks very similar to some high-end, name brand ones on the market right now. The colors are exactly what I ordered and it functions exactly how it should. Plus, I've been using it in my day-to-day for a few months now and it has held up incredibly well.
Now as far as the price tag, 'FREE' is not the norm for this or any other item; it was only free because of an error on their part. Originally I did pay about $26 for this bag, (which is still way cheaper than you'd find in a brand-name store these days). But because of this issue on their end, I ended up getting my money back and the bag to keep!
See my conversation below with a service rep that led to me getting this item for FREE:
Wish has a policy that if an item is not received within 28 days of purchasing it, you can be refunded your entire amount AND if the item does eventually get to you, you get to KEEP the item (no returning it or the refunded money)! Or you can have the item re-shipped for no additional charge. This is part of that great customer service I mentioned earlier.
I have one more secret to share: I've paid for every single one of my Wish purchases with cash I've earned through the 8 apps I use that pay me to shop. I have my balances on those apps transferred to PayPal and then just select that option when checking out on Wish. So really, all my purchases from Wish have been free!
If you are looking for inexpensive goodies for yourself or someone else for a number of purposes, Wish really is a great place to look!
