The first year of your child's life is full of monumental moments, and while there is so much that it can't all possibly be retained just in our memory, we can capture it and create a keepsake that will carry on those memories even when we get a little foggy of the details. Enter the 'baby book.'
From the moment my belly starting showing our little girl was growing all the way up to her first birthday party, I diligently compiled pictures, memories, and statistics to make sure we remembered that first year as vividly as we could. While the time did fly by and it does all seem like a blur, I love having the most memorable parts all in one place!
I had, of course, heard about the fill-in-the-blank baby books available, and while those are certainly much less time-consuming, they just didn't seem as personalized to me. I decided before she was born that I was going to make Morgan's baby book 100% authentic to who she was to us using a digital picture book. If you have the patience and the determination to make a piece of history like this, I highly encourage you to check out the many picture book websites out there and find one that works for you! I have used 3 different picture book sites over the past few years, but the one I chose for Morgan's baby book was Picaboo.
What I liked about Picaboo:
Here's the layout/template I used for our daughter's baby book:
Page 1: bump pics from 16 to 40 weeks
Pages 2-3: pictures & wrap-up of our time at the hospital
Pages 4-5, 8-23, 26-31: months 1-12 with pictures, measurements, unique things about her, milestones & memorable moments
Pages 6-7: a short & sweet letter to our girl with some of her first pictures
Pages 24-25: Christmas pictures
Pages 32-33: pictures from her 1st birthday party
Pages 34-35: pictures from the nursery
Page 36: a list of why we love being her parents
If you decide to go this route, here are some tips I have to make it go as smoothly as possible:
It was a long and tedious process, but I am SO happy with the result and it was well worth the time and energy put into it. I can't wait to show it to Morgan when she gets older and I have to admit, I thumb through it pretty often myself just to reminisce on those moments that went by way too fast.
