Okay time, you are moving crazy fast and I am having an exciting and terrifiying realization: we're going to have a second baby in our home in 6 weeks! *gasp*
Before I get into why I am just now coming to this realization, read the update and comparison below to see how things are going at 34 weeks.
First off, crazy thing about the two photos up there: in both I was all dolled up for maternity pictures! Funny coincidence, huh? Also, I miss the length of my hair in the first photo. Sadly, it has not grown as rapidly or beautifully during this current pregnancy.
Okay, now let me address why I am just now realizing that we will have a newborn in our lives in just 6 short weeks...
A friend of mine just had her first baby girl and I visited them when she was just a week old. Watching my friend caring for her newborn brought back so many memories of when we brought our first baby home: the beautiful ones, and the not so beautiful ones...
And on the way home as the baby in my belly kicked my bladder and the toddler in her carseat behind me kicked my headrest, it finally hit me that I'm going to be bringing a newborn into this world...SOON. And the cherry on top, I already have a full-time job in raising my toddler.
Overwhelmed is a good word for what I was feeling. Scared is a close second. Excited is a solid third. I have an idea of what to expect when bringing this baby home: sleepless nights, breastfeeding blunders, lots and lots of laundry. But I have no idea what to expect when you throw a 2 year old in the mix.
I guess it will all just unfold as it should and there's only so much preparing I can do, but it took 34 weeks for me to finally let it sink in: I'm going to be a momma of TWO.
Another thing I've been worrying about as far as parenting goes is how my daughter will react to another little one in our home. She did great when she met my friend's baby; she was super sweet and careful with her, and she let me talk to my friend and hold the baby without being too demanding for my attention.
But that was just a one-hour visit. When her baby sister is in our home 24/7, how is my toddler going to feel? Neglected, jealous? I can't even fathom my kid feeling those things, especially if I am the cause of them.
We have decided that as soon as I can get all the paperwork together, our oldest daughter will start going to a preschool program 5 hours a day, 2 days a week, which I think will help. It will give her 10 hours of socialization, education, and play every week while giving me 10 hours of mommy-newborn time as well as a little rest and a chance to keep our home somewhat orderly.
This whole bringing home a second baby thing is going to be a big change for everyone, but we did it the first time around and survived, so surely we can pull it off again!
The last thing I wanted to touch on were some of the items I have received from a mommy giveaway on Instagram. Several really trendy and unique shops put together a giveaway of credits to their shop ranging from $30-$65 and I got to choose what items to use it on.
So far, I have ordered and received the following adorable items:
Wooden Texas rattle & wooden yo-yo from Bannor Toys
The rattle is actually going to be one of the only toys we own that was purchased specifically for the new baby. Poor kid has a lifetime of hand-me-downs in her future, but this special gift is just for her!
The yo-yo is personalized with Morgan's name on one side and a monkey on the other. We call our daughter a monkey on a regular basis because she acts like one most of the time, so it seemed really fitting! I plan to put this in her Big Sister Hospital Gift (more on that later)!
Mini bow headbands from Starry Knight Design, Inc.
This shop had a huge selection of colors to choose from, but I went with the more feminine and neutral palettes so the new baby could wear them with a lot of outfits! With my shop credit I was able to get two sets in slightly different colors, and I intend to give one as a gift to a very special couple in my life who just found out they are having a baby girl!
If you're looking for some unique, handmade, and high quality gifts, I highly recommend these two shops!
Well, that's it for this week! See you next week for week 35!
