Packing a hospital bag can be both an exciting and daunting task. While you're trying to wrap your head around what to expect in the birthing process, it's both difficult and exhilarating when you have no idea what to expect.
Having made the trip to the hospital just once before, I feel like I can somewhat help clarify what you'll truly need for the time you spend welcoming your little into the world. Below I will show you what I am packing for our impending visit to the hospital and why I feel these items are absolute necessities!
To say I over-packed the first time is an understatement. While I won't go into too much detail about what all I brought the first time, I will say that my poor, sleep-deprived husband had to lug 4 bags of stuff up to our room of which we ended up using just a fraction of.
We also had a very smooth labor and delivery, and my recovery stay was just a little more than 24 hours after our daughter was born. If complications arise and you have to stay longer, more supplies might be needed than I am providing below, but that isn't exactly something you can predict. And my prayer for all of you expecting mommas is that your birthing experience is nothing short of magical and as complication-free as possible!
My goal this time is to fit all the essentials needed for my husband, our new baby, and myself into one duffel bag (wishful thinking?). I got this bag at Burlington for less than $30 a few months ago. Having already used it for several trips, I am very impressed with how much it holds. Plus, it's the cutest floral print, right?
For your convenience, I've compiled all the above info into this graphic!
I hope this was helpful in showing you what necessities you'll need (based on my previous experience). In my opinion, everything else is either a luxury or maybe just for your own specific needs. You certainly don't want to be under-prepared, but you also don't want to have to unpack a bunch of stuff you never used while also trying to figure out this whole newborn thing (if you need some light shed on that whole new adventure, read my post here with advice from moms who have been there)!
I also wanted to mention that if this is your second (or more) child, consider making a 'Big Sibling' gift for them to open at the hospital so that they feel included in the big day, too! I wrote a post all about what we are gifting our daughter the day her little sister is born. You can find it here!
